2017 Continuing Medical Education Event

To promote cultural competence and enhance teaching of resident physicians within the community, Northwest Washington Family Medicine Residency will host a Continuing Medical Education Event at CHI-Franciscan Health Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale on 19 August, 2017.

Two presentations will be delivered by content-area-experts Drs. Anna Lembke and Harvey Makadon:

Harvey J. Makadon, MD is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the National LGBT Health Education Center at The Fenway Institute, a division of Fenway Health, Boston.  He teaches about how to improve access to quality care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in health care settings around the country and directs a HRSA funded cooperative agreement to improve cultural competence in LGBT health in community health centers.  Dr. Makadon is the lead editor of The Fenway Guide to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health, published by the American College of Physicians in 2008.

Three Faculty Development sessions will be presented by experts in the field of Graduate Medical Education:  Drs. Michael Arnold, Douglas Maurer, and Nancy Stevens will address issues related to professionalism, provision of effective feedback for learners, and interaction with residents when behavior no longer is within the 'acceptable' realm.

Attendance is limited to approximately 100 participants, and lunch will be served on-site for registered participants.  CME Credit will be provided for up to 6 hours.  Nursing providers are approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP15532,  for 5.7 contact hours.
